Using Cutest Crew and Party Alphabet to Make a Very Versatile Card – Butterfly Inspirations Blog Hop

My very talented friends on the Butterfly Inspirations Blog Hop and I are making Winter/Winter Holidays cards today. I went rogue and used the Cutest Crew and Party Alphabet, showing how even non-holiday sets can be used for holiday cards. Bonus – you can use it for other events as well! Check out my card below then go to the bottom for the links to my crafty friends’ blogs!

Isn’t it cute? The only time consuming part is creating and coloring the dogs, but even that doesn’t take much time. Here, I created a card base as usual, cutting a full sheet of Basic White cardstock in half and folding it again creating a 4-1/4″ x 5-1/2″ card base to create a landscape card. Then I took the back side of one of the pieces of Sunflower Fields designer series paper and cut a piece of the red plaid to 4-1/8″ x 5-3/8″. You can cut it to 4″ x 5-1/4″ if you prefer, but adding the extra 1/8″ shows more of the festive red plaid. I cut a piece of Basic White to 3-3/4″ x 5″. Then get a scrap of the green stripe piece from Sunflower Fields designer series paper and cut it to 3″ x 4-1/4″. I bet you didn’t guess the “Christmas” paper actually came from the very autumnal Sunflower Fields designer series paper!

Color the dogs (or cats) however you wish with Stampin’ Blends. I used a variety of blends. Some dogs/cats are one color, some blend two colors, and some also use the Stampin’ Blends Color Lifter to lighten some areas. Don’t forget the flowers! After you color them in, cut them out with the die and then cut them all apart with Detail scissors.

Using the Party Alphabet dies, cut out JOY. Glue the letters on the top of the Basic White piece. Adhere the letter on the left first (here, the J), then the letter on the right (here, the Y), and finally the letter in the middle (here, the O). Doing it that way lets you space them evenly. Place the dogs around the letters so they look like they are playing on the letters. Some dogs can go on top and some on the bottom. For the middle top dog here, I tucked his back legs behind the O and the front legs on top. Adhere the decorated Basic White piece on the red plaid designer series paper. Adhere the red plaid piece to the Basic White card base, then using Stampin’ Dimensionals, place the decorated Basic White piece on the red plaid piece. I also like to place one dog or cat inside the card to create cuteness everywhere. Place on Shimmery Dots and you are done!

Don’t stop at the holidays! This is the card I made for my daughter’s birthday. She’s a cat lover. I am so happy that the set has both cats and dogs! Here I embossed the white layer with the Forever Plaid embossing folder, and used the Stampin’ Blends color lifter on some of the cats’ faces and/or bellies to lighten them up.

And here is a card I made for a baby shower. The sketch is so versatile! For the baby card, I skipped the in-between layer. It is only two layers – the Basic White card base and the 4-1/8″ x 5-3/8″ layer in Basic White embossed with the Forever Plaid embossing folder. The letters are popped up with Stampin’ Dimensionals. Some of the dogs are glued on directly and some popped up.
These cards make everyone so happy! Please let me know if you try it. Leave a comment and let me know whether you like the dogs or the cats!

This post is made in collaberation with the Butterfly Inspirations Blog Hop. Please check out all my very talented friends’ blogs. We are all making projects using the same theme, but I will bet they are all very different. I can’t wait to see all their amazing visions!
