Use Cutest Crew Bundle With a Catalog Sketch Along With the Butterfly Inspirations Blog Hop!
Feeling stuck and not sure what to make? Need a little help designing a card? CASE (Copy and Share Everything) a card or use a template! Stampin’ Up!© catalogs are a great place to start. There are literally hundreds of samples in each catalog, using nearly all the products in the catalog. And if you look closely, there are templates sprinkled throughout the catalogs. On page 13 of the May to August catalog, you can find sketches along the bottom of the page. Today the Butterfly Inspirations Blog Hop is using the third template along the bottom of the page, shown below.
I thought this would be perfect with the Cutest Crew bundle because it uses both horizontal images and vertical images, both of which are in this bundle. But first, I needed to turn the template to a horizontal orientation. Doing small tweaks like that are what makes sketches work for you!
Isn’t that just adorable? First I stamped the images on Basic White using Basic Gray ink. Have you tried using colored ink instead of black to stamp images? It creates softer images that you can still color, particularly when using Stampin’ Blends. I colored and then die cut the cats and dogs.
Did you notice something about the cats and dogs? They are shorter than the actual stamps and dies. After stamping, I cut off one of the dogs and two of the cats from the ends to get them to be the right size. For the butterflies and pawprints, I stamped them on a piece of Basic White that measures 3/4″ x 2 1/4″. Then I glued all four strips to a piece of Pool Party cardstock measuring 4 1/4″ x 3 1/2″, creating the box-like shape seen in the sketch. I overlapped the horizontal cats and dogs over the vertical pieces. I cut a piece of Basic White to 1 1/2″ x 1″, stamped Happy Birthday in Pool Party from the Cutest Crew, and adhered it in the middle of the box using dimensionals. I love the look when it overlaps the other pieces. I used dimensionals to adhere the Pool Party piece to the plaid piece, and Tombow glue to adhere the plaid piece to the Basic White cardbase.
Something else I like doing is to use a sponge dauber around the edges of the pieces of paper to create more separation. That is best done for each piece when cut and before everything is adhered together. Here I used the same Basic Gray that I used for the stamps. I finished off the card with twine and Shimmering Dots. So adorable!
Did you notice that I made one with the animals glued onto Pool Party and one with the animals glued onto Basic White? Which do you prefer? I hope this helps get your creativity juices flowing!
